MUFC confirm medical and Dutch star arrives at club

first_imgManchester United manager Louis van Gaal says the club do not need another striker and he will not buy just for the sake of it, but hinted he may make one more signing if the opportunity arises. He was speaking at the unveiling of new signing Memphis Depay who joined in a £25m deal from PSV Eindhoven.Depay could be set for a more central role following the impending exit of Robin van Persie to Fenerbahce but Van Gaal refused to be drawn on the issue of possible replacements.“We have enough strikers, but one [more] is always possible,” he said.“I have said many times you know transfers are processes and when I read the papers you can read that also.“We cannot say anything about our transfers or strategy otherwise our opponents can profit from it.“Manchester United will not buy to buy. I am not a manager who wants to buy players, I want to develop players.“Sometimes we have to buy but when you buy it has to be better than what you have – that is the theory but in the season we shall see if that is true.”The former Netherlands coach also confirmed defender Matteo Darmian is scheduled to have a medical ahead of a move from Torino. The 25-year-old full-back is travelling to England after a fee, believed to be in the region of £12.7million, was agreed.“I have read that in the papers. It is true,” said the Dutchman.Asked whether he was on his way to Manchester for a medical, Van Gaal added: “Yes.” 1last_img
